Every year for the past 5 years we have gotten together with the Irish and ridden during this weekend, whether it be here, or in Clitheroe, or South Wales.

2012 is going to be no different,

The format is going to be that which was so successful last year, namely choose an area choose hotels and everyone that wants to go book and meet on the Friday evening.

Friday the fourth of May is the evening, the area is the Peak district, the Hotels will be announced tomorrow.

There is as usual a strong contingent already looking forward to this from The Emerald Ilse.

More details to follow.

These are the hotels we will be using for the 3 nights.

Friday 4th and Saturday 5th May  Premier Inn Macclesfield North, SK10 2XA

Sunday 6th  Premier Inn Oswestry, SY10 8NN

Saturday will be spent touring the Peaks, and Sunday will be a prelonged ride to the next hotel, Oswestry is a convienent place for us all to jump off and head home or to ferries from.
Premier Inn's are not the cheapest budget hotel, but they offer a standard for a price.
Let us know if you are thinking of joining us

Travel Lodge still seem to have cheap rooms for that W/e but beware lack of parking and restaurant on site. Chesterfield is currently £67 per room for two nights on the Fri/Sat.

You may find,if you enquire that the car park at the back is used for Travel Lodge guests next to the Little Chef.

The Chesterfield one does claim to have a car park (possibly shared with the Little Chef, but I came across another one which had no car park at all.  They don't all have an eatery either, hence my note of caution.

But at less than £35 per night for a family room,  David could take both Bryony and Lesley - maybe even Muffin as well!  ;)

I'm happy to do some internet searching for you.

There are lots of hotels within the Peak District but there are probably no cheap deals for a Bank Holiday because the hotels within the District will be tourist hotels.

The best deals for that weekend will probably be at business-type hotels outside the District, but maybe that's OK because a short "commute" tagged on to the day's ride to get there would be a fair exchange for the cheaper deal.

Have you considered stopping the first night on the North or North West side of the District (eg Macclesfield Adlington, £19.50) second night on the East side (eg Alfreton, £38.45) both with parking and Little Chef but nowt else. (These prices are current but will go up.)

If doing it on the cheap for accommodation isn't vital, than you could go for a proper hotel with much better facilities.

Give me a steer and I'll do some more research.

The steer is premier inn style, with hostelry and better food than a little chef, when we looked yesterday morning the priemier inn was £34 and by the time we went to book it had risen to £56.

Maybe you've discovered that £56 per night for a Premier Inn (which usually have a Beefeater-type eatery and bar) is as good as you can hope to get for that weekend and you should settle for that before they go up even more.

Even the cheapest B&Bs in the Peak District arent going to be better than that and they won't welcome one-night stays over a bank holiday weeknd.

The only other possibility I can think of is renting bunkhouse-type accommodation which might be available in a converted barn in the Peak District and work out cheaper per person if you can fill it. But this will probably mean self-catering in some relatively isolated place and also booking it (i.e. staying in the same place) for the whole weekend.  Likewise static caravans.

Sorry I can't be more hopeful.
