If you are using Windows there comes with it a program called Paint. If you start with putting the cursor over your picture in question there will appear an information window with the picturesize in kb or Mb. Remember that by scribbling it down or in your memory. Then start the program and open the picture, then there is in the top list the word Picture. Clicking on it opens a roll down with alternatives of which one is picture size. When you chose that one you get the option of downsizing the picture by percent. Usually a 50% downsize is enough to get under 500kb.

Hi Paul, what version of windows are you using, if its XP then microsoft do a nifty resizer for free, you download it and then use windows as normal, when you are looking at your thumbnail photos, you simply right click and an option to resize is there, there is small med and large or custom, the good thing about this is you can batch size, ie say you have 50 photos in a file, siimply select them all using drag and drop and then right click, it then makes a copy of the original, if you nee dmore infor mate let me know

I really miss this feature on Vista, I used it all the time on XP and it was quick and easy to re size batches of pictures.

The quickest and easiest way I have found for Vista, is to open the picture you want to resize into Microsoft office manager, by right clicking on the picture and hovering over "open in", this brings up a drop down menu. Once you click on Microsoft picture manager, you click on "edit picture" at the top and from the menu on the right, you can resize easily to pre determined sizes, plus you can crop and do other simple changes, like removal of red eye. Once saved, you can return to the gallery and chose another to do.

follow this link to microsoft power toys, they are all totally free to use mate

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/Downloads/powertoys/Xppowertoys.mspx

have a look on the page, the one you want is in the right column near the bottom of the page, image resizer, download it and then run the program.

Once installed go to the folder that your photos are in, right click on the one(s) you want to resize, now one of the options that comes up is resize, follow the instructions.

once finished the photos that you resized will be in the same folder, the originals remain untouched. There are other resizers out there, but this one once installed you do not need to run anyhting, its just a right click away like the copy and paste command and also you can do multiple images at once, try it mate, if you are still unsire what to do i can pop over matey
