looking good, as for ultrasonic baths, i am sure you will be able to purchase one of these, as to what to put in, not sure again, we used them where i worked to clean up ink jet nozzles using a cleaning solution called MEK methol ethyl Keytone, the jets were cut by lazers and were tiny, microns, this stuff used to clean them but not sure whether it would work on carbs

One thing I noticed is that the rockercovers are of aftermarket chromed variety. These covers is notories for leaking at the gasket since they where forged on a mold made from a OEM piece which make the groove ,2mm to wide for the gasket. The OEM ones are cut aluminium. Recommend that you try to get a pair of originals, less hassle. Had said problem on my old 1200.

Here is a view inside the rocker cover.
I just took the cover off to check the condition of the gasket.
Just to be safe I will order 2 new ones.

I took the engine to the workshop and gave it a good steam cleaning.
It is surprising how much dirt this removed.

I removed the covers from the timing belts as I wanted to do a test patch of paint spraying and did not want overspray on rubber gaskets.

I noticed that the 2 front spark plugs were rusty. This was because the drain holes were blocked preventing moisture to drain from the spark plug chamber. You can see the drain hole in this picture.

The search is on for an ultrasonic bath for carb cleaning.
When I find one I will post a picture.

Hi Lemen, a few years ago I had a Hillman Imp engine in a show car, used to paint that with"BLACKFRIAR ALUMINIUM PAINT..........Extra Bright" claimed to be heatproof to 300F if it was put on in very light coat it looked just like a clean alumimium casting. Don't know if it still available but any stockist of Blackfriar paint would probably be able to help.
Bike looking good so far.:coo::coo::coo:

There has been very little wrenching done last few weeks as I have been working away in the north western part of the country 5 hours drive away and then I have spent the last 8 days touring Scotland.

I bought a few bits from a guy near Darlington, some plastic fairing bits, the Keyboard unit for the handlebars, the left handlebar switches, swingarm gaiter, Fuel tank sender unit and he also had a pair of totally refurbished front forks which saves me the job of getting my own rechromed.

I also have a collection of other parts for the bike. I got from David Silvers a new centrestand pivot tube, Air filter, Rocker cover Gaskets and a new fuel filter.

I found a guy on ebay selling new side and centrestand springs so I got them too.

David silver also has a new stator for 70 something quid and also gaiters for the rear shocks. I have more or less decided to just replace the stator with a new unit now that the engine is out.

I am going to get all the bits together (and the courage) to do the engine in one go before I tackle it.

I also bought a motorcycle bench which has turned out to be a bit of a disaster. There is another thread running on here about that.

I will post some more on the rebuild soon.
